Well, getting attention online is inevitable. If you're the type of user who knows how to have a good (interesting) conversation, people will definitely talk to you more; their friends start talking to you, their friends friends start talking to you. Well, you'll eventually see that you have waves and waves of people looking for you. So you see... you know how to converse with people that's why they look for you.
But I know how you feel. A solution to this would be to shift your online schedules a bit. You know... to keep unwanted people from constantly knowing when you'll be online. As for going invisible on YM... well I don't do that coz my other friends might miss me. LOL What I do is I go visible only to certain groups... usually our guildmates. Hehehe.
Oh, and there's nothing wrong with being friends. That's where a relationship should really start. =) Um.. and be wary of online relationships. If they ask you to eyeball, don't go without your friends. Or better yet, ask me to tag along. (Demonic laugh) See ya! ^^
